Dear all, ĊAMYouths has recently signed its agreement to embrace the attached Code of Conduct on Images and Messages. The said Code of Conduct provides guidelines on which SKOP organisations (including ĊAMYouths) can base their communications strategy. The aim behind is to regulate the way we portray images and convey messages with regard to poverty themes in order to ensure that we threat the reality of the lives of poor people with sensitivity and respect for their dignity. Therefore, in line with the above, we as ĊAMYouths agree that the values of human dignity, respect and truthfulness must underlie all our communications and we therefore commit ourselves to implement the principles outlined in the Code in all our endeavours. In concrete terms, we hereby request that in all ĊAMYouths projects involving work with the poor and needy or disadvantaged groups in society, one member is selected as the ‘official’ photographer who will be responsible for taking photos in line with the Code guidelines. In any of its communications, CAMYouths will be committed to use and publicise photos taken only by these ‘official’ photographers, provided that the content of the images respects the Code. It is extremely important that members participating in such projects also adhere to the Code; therefore they cannot publicise photos featuring any subjects related to the projects concerned. In case where the imagery is portraying volunteers only, the subjects’ consent must first be sought prior to making the photos public. Adherence to the Code of Conduct on Images and Messages is with immediate effect. We are sure that you all understand the aims behind the Code and we therefore solicit full cooperation of all ĊAMYouths members and any other non-members participating in projects run by our organisation. We are also requesting that members / non-members who have participated in projects run by CAMYouths over the past years, remove any photos in breach of the Code principles from public access. We are particularly referring to photos featuring in facebooks and hi-5. We thank you in advance. Renzo, Kenneth, Steve, Fr. Karm and Brian Leadership Committee (2008) |
